Product Review

I couldn’t think of a better product review to start the year with, than this moisturizing Vita Duo Cream. This moisturizer is a collaboration by Neogen and Joan Kim! If you don’t know who Joan Kim is, can you really call yourself a skinthusiast?

Joan Kim is a YouTube vlogger who focuses mostly on skincare. She was among the first K-Beauty influencers I binge watched when I discovered Korean Skincare. Joan’s skin type is dry and acne-prone. While I have combo and acne-prone skin, I found that a lot of the products she liked seemed to work for me as well. I always trust her opinion and have loved watching her channel grow over the past few years.

Like most K-Beauty lovers, myself included, Joan is a fan of Neogen Dermalogy. I’ve discussed Neogen before, but the gist of the brand is that they are dedicated to creating effective products through pointed research. They even have a skincare lab!

Something magical happened this year when Joan finally teamed up with Neogen to create this moisturizer! I got my hands on it and have been testing it out for over two weeks to see how it works for my skin.

Before we dive into the product, I’d like to acknowledge the lovely packaging. I loved seeing a little note from Joan when I opened the box. I also think the color palette of the jar is perfect, especially in light of the main ingredients.

I like to think Joan thought the idea of creating a moisturizer made for all skin types (with acne-prone people in mind) was so nice, she did it twice. Yes, this moisturizer is two in one! The cream on the left is the Joan Day cream, and the one on the right is the Joan Night cream.

I absolutely love the shape of the jar and how the two creams are separated, as well as the labels differentiating which is which. The spatula included is one of my favorites I’ve seen in a product as well. It scoops very nicely and is easy to grip. Joan has mentioned that while the creams are titled Day and Night, that’s not to say you can’t switch them up or layer the two. In fact, they were designed to work together.

Joan Day

The Joan Day cream showcases two ingredients both Joan and I love: green tea extract and vitamin C. If you read my All Eyes on Green Tea post, you know that green tea is amazing for anti-inflammation, antibacterial properties, and it’s full of antioxidants. I think it was very smart to couple this with vitamin C. Vitamin C helps even out the skin tone, fade hyperpigmentation and acne scars, as well as smooth out wrinkles.

Joan Day is everything I look for in a day cream. It doesn’t have too much of a scent, which is great for those who are sensitive. Joan Day smells clean, if that makes sense. It applies so smooth all over the face. I felt my skin drink this up instantly. There was no greasy residue afterwards. The moisturizer gives you that unique dewy effect while mattifying your skin.

I’ve used it under makeup as well and it acts as a great makeup primer, creating a smooth canvas. I love that this cream already has vitamin C in it, in case I run out of my Triple C Lightning serum. Joan Day goes a long way with just a little bit of product. And of course, you should be using an SPF after you moisturize during the day, especially when using active ingredients like vitamin C.

Over the past few weeks I have noticed that my skin remains calm, and moisturized for a longer period of time throughout the day. I have also had minimal breakouts since starting this cream. Any recent breakouts I can attribute to holiday treats and some issues I’ve been having with my tap water. Joan Day brought sunshine to my morning routine.

Joan Night

I really do love both creams but if I had to pick one, it would be Joan Night. I truly feel seen now that this cream is on the market. It’s a gel moisturizer which is always SO hydrating! Joan Night is formulated with lavender oil and vitamin E. Lavender oil is extremely calming for the skin, reducing any redness or irritation. It smells divine and helps me relax before bed too.

Vitamin E pairs nicely with any actives, like vitamin C, which is why this cream can be layered over Joan Day for ultimate hydration. Vitamin E also strengthens the skin and helps it heal at a quicker rate. Applying this cream is such a therapeutic experience. It blends in so well and truly gives you that overnight hydration you need. I wake up with hydrated skin when I use this cream. The lavender scent is the perfect amount without being too overpowering. Please take note, if you aren’t a lavender lover like me, you probably won’t like this cream.

I have tried layering Joan Night over Joan Day, and loved the extra oomf of hydration it provides. Most importantly, these two creams have really helped heal my skin! I have not gained any breakouts or irritation from the Vito Duo. I can confidently say that these creams have helped get my breakouts under control. They have also helped fade my hyperpigmentation and acne scars.

The Vito Duo is available on Amazon for $32. Each cream comes in a quantity of 1.76 oz. This is a tiny bit more than I would normally pay for a moisturizer, HOWEVER, keep in mind you are receiving two creams. I would also like to add that a little goes a long way with these products. It’s really easy to want to slather them on, but there is no need. I will absolutely purchase this product again. I have heard that some people would like to purchase the creams separately. I can see how this would be helpful for those that only want one cream from the duo, so that is something I would be interested in as well.

I highly recommend trying this product and supporting Joan Kim. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to create your own product from scratch. I believe it took Joan and Neogen about a year to get this product right. Not only does the formula of the cream have to work well for all skin types, but the packaging, font, colors, even the spatula have to be perfected too.

As a last note to Joan, I truly appreciate your dedication to creating a product that works and improves sensitive, acne-prone skin. Thank you for taking time on this, and thank you for loving skincare.

Have you guys tried the Vito Duo yet? Which cream is your favorite, Joan Day or Joan Night or both? Leave a comment and let me know.

Until next time, drink up!
